The Church says no, but I’m a Christian by my own definition

I am a Christian. By my own definition my “Christianity” extends only to the beliefs in the Almighty power, his son Jesus and those that came before him to show us, humans how to act. Period. I don’t speculate on heaven or hell, I’ve never been there and thus far no scientist has been able to identify these locations. I believe that the Bible is a book containing Holy texts, parables, metaphors and fables. I was raised Baptist and despite my educational background in Religion and hundreds of sermon attendances, I am still not quite sure what that exactly means. I fail to adhere to one denomination over the other and I definitely have a preference for which churches I do not support. I do not believe the Bible is to be read literally and interpreted word for word, nor do I believe pastors or any religious figure in the vast hierarchy can judge another man. I don’t believe in the systematic oppression of people who contradict Church edict, nor do I support the phenomena that the Pope is appointed by God as the overseer of Christendom. (Side note-He is obviously voted in as its broadcast from coast to coast.) I do not believe the true GOD is complex, requires a human interpreter and prone to murdering his people. I do believe that Christianity similar to many other religions has been used as a weapon and means of political and social domination by the selfish motives of powerful individuals. A brief glance at history, specifically the history of Christendom is rife with forced conversion and scriptural manipulation. The unification of Rome and the spread of Christendom were interlinked and the mass oppression, forced conversion and subjugation of conquered peoples were initiated, defended and propagated by the Catholic Church. Slavery in Europe, Africa and the Americas was defended by leaders of the Church. In Hinduism, human beings are classified by their color, genetically the amount of melanin they contain, and their oppression is supported by their spiritual leaders. Within certain sects of Islam, they decree death to non-believers, while others systematically oppress their Christian neighbors. Judaism claims a righteous and chosen existence, but its leaders demand rights via non righteous means. Genetically the first “Jews” were of African descent, however you bring this up anywhere in the country of Israel and you will be thrown out.  By no means have I intended to classify masses of people by their fellow brethren’s actions nor by their leaders’ errors in judgment. However, at what point to you realize that the religion itself is the oppressor? That the religion itself is perhaps flawed and the teachings and views of the leaders of these religions are as flawed as their congregants, parishioners and believers? All of the above mentioned religions claim the right path or the only way to live and exist, however each is blemished by the acts of the representatives of their religion. In most cases, the most horrific acts come from the top. The inherent rejection of “others” in every major religion is a device used to separate man from his fellow people. If Christianity is good and righteous, then why is it filled with so much wrong? If Islam is the religion of the chosen why are they constantly at war? If Hinduism is the right path why are so many of your people oppressed by your own? If God is almighty wouldn’t it stand to reason that the acts of man in his name are meaningless? If any of the aforementioned religions are from God, Allah or and an Almighty being why are the acts of so many of its representatives so heinous? I propose that the only way to achieve peace or some resemblance of advanced thinking among the human race is through the eradication of our religious armor. To believe in something is one thing, to harm, divide or oppress another in its name is ignorant, futile and denies logic and reason

Humanity

The amount of planets discovered in the past decade is mind boggling. Breakthroughs in medicine, technology, archeology, and anthropology etc. are being produced at increasing volumes yet the masses are seemingly oblivious to the knowledge being produced that could change mankind. Considering that even the Catholic Church has now admitted the extraterrestrial life may exist despite decades of vehement denials you would assume that at the very least 6 million supposed devoted worshipers of the Church and its various sects would at least discuss astronomy and the impact living in a universe a billion times larger than previously thought. The possibility that life exists somewhere else in the universe is all but certain but discussions concerning extra-terrestrial life in the media is confined to Hollywood blockbusters. Most people throughout the world would agree that Man has truly advanced over his ancient ancestors but I would argue that the majority of people on this planet today have much more in common with their forbearers than they would be willing to admit. In the last 2000 years, wars have been waged on nearly every continent on the globe. Millions and millions have died, struggled, and suffered beneath the hands of their own kind, other men. When a human being takes the life of another I make no distinction of race, religion or creed. For the sake of this argument I view Man as the highest ranking species on this planet and our differences are grains of sand in the vast ocean of our similarities. Yet despite our arrogance concerning our advances we still fail to apply logic to the most divisive conflicts man has allowed to permeate life.  These conflicts generally center on religion, race, politics, class systems and social systems i.e. communism, socialism, democracy etc. and despite the most pervasive arguments these clashes generally boil down to differences in opinion which somehow results in blood shed. Without delving into the differences within religion it is safe to assume that nearly every world religion has a set of belief systems and doctrine adhered to by supposed followers. Nearly all of these religions from Buddhism, to Hinduism, Christianity, and Judaism require strict adherence to the teachings and belief systems generally promoting peace and life yet the disagreement between the entities result in violence, oppression and massacre. Nearly every major revolution or system of oppression and violence has been steeped in religious philosophy (or the rejection of) yet human survival is dependent on us as humans to stop killing and oppressing each other. A utopia is a fool’s vision, but a world where logic and reason dominate and religious doctrine, political ideology and socio-cultural differences serves only to motivate is essential to the success of humanity.

Despite Logic and Reason

Despite our impressive abilities concerning logic and reason, man’s most basic advantage over all animals on this planet, we still live in a society permeated with idiots. All the advances of man from technology to medicine have not yet freed us from our preoccupation with religious theory, political worship or failing social systems. Every day a seemingly remarkable discovery, scientific find, or revision of previous theory is made and very few are even aware. Check out the amount of hits to scholarly websites, vs the amount of hits to you tube and “Lindsay Lohan”. Check out the amount of people who actually read a book for the sake of reading it or the amount of Americans who go to college for knowledge and not an eventual paycheck. A glance at western culture and its preoccupation with frivolous issues and ignorant topics should highlight the fact that “enlightenment “and the pursuit of knowledge for the advancement of mankind is the least of concerns for the majority of people. The media, the perfect conduit of information and facts, scientific discovery and relevant issues is simply a Celebrity cesspool in which are latest do nothing media darlings are followed and analyzed on multiple channels for hours at a time. The identification of an earth-like planet captured via Satellite by Nasa earlier this month was regulated to a 10 second sound bite at the end of late night news when “entertainment news” compromises the majority of TV time. The slaughter of millions of people in war torn countries such as Rwanda, Angola and the Congo only spark attention when movies like Blood Diamonds premiere. For most of us with satellite and cable TV we have hundreds of channels that offer us “reality” TV for our entertainment and enjoyment. These channels bombard us with reality TV which depicts nothing of our true reality, simply carefully scripted shows depicting human beings as capitalist do nothings with little concern for anyone but ourselves. Man will not advance simply because he exists, man will advance when we utilize our greatest gift, higher reasoning and logic and apply it to all aspects of our lives and world.

Congratulations America http://ping.fm/hmIvi

Congratulations America

You have done it again. The minute the country shows its on the right track to prosperity and economic growth you vote in the very same idiots that got us into this mess into the first place. Too bad for the 12 million Americans who are unemployed, many who will lose their only source of income with the lapse of their benefits. What is the problem, why won't Congress extend the benefits that all parties have always agreed to do in tough economic times? Oh, because the moron Republicans want to ensure they and their wealthy friends don't have to pay 3% extra in taxes. The over polished, orange tanned, Bible thumping, oil tycoon Republicans are willing to sacrifice millions of Americans just to make sure they hold onto all their millions. Are you kidding me? Is this 2010? Thank you for all the morons that cast votes for the wealthiest 2% of the nation to make more this year while 98% of Americans continue to suffer. If anyone's noticed the entire "My priority is to repeal Obama Care and make the government more fiscally responsible" rhetoric has gone out the window. Republicans don't even bother. Million dollar baby Palin is fishing in Alaska and praying she can keep every dollar she made off the American peoples stupidity. But why should she care? Why should Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Boehner or any other idiot truly care what the "working man" is going through. What for? They know you whiny crybaby idiots will continue to vote in the typical Washington snake that continues to sink the country further and further into kindergarten play where the teachers are spoiled rich kid politicians bouncing billions of dollars back and forth to each other screaming I love America.
Here's a logo for all those that cast their vote this weekend to NOT help the majority of Americans hard hit by the recession caused by Republican fiscal irresponsibility over the past decade.

Are We That Fickle?

In response to the article The Story of the Past Two Years by C. Krauthammer,  (Washington Post Writers Group), I can only find myself appalled by the mood swings of our "informed voters". Assuming the authors surmise is true, and most Americans are tired of the "wrong" direction we are headed, where were these Americans when Obama was elected? The author cites a "desperate attack" by the Democrats to explain the GOP take over Nov. 2, 2010. This talk of "dark conspiracies" specifically, "secret money, foreign influence, big corporations.." are the very  problems Obama addressed during his campaign trail in 2008. If the ideological inclinations of the American people are "demonstrably center-right" as the author argues where were they when Obama was issued into office? I find it disturbing that the millions of people who chanted "change" are now almost violently opposed to the administration it helped elect. Does anyone remember 2008? Do you honestly believe that a country's whose stock market plunged into the depths of hell, would bounce right back right in time for the New Year? Have "most Americans" lost their minds? The policies, behaviors and political systems at work prior to Obama, were the same problems dropped on his desk the day after election. The same problems most Americans realized Republican dominated administrations had created. Attempting to work through them without resulting to customary game playing with the lobbyists and Republicans now gets him rebuked by the voters with change stickers plastered all over their bumpers.
And for all the politicians that ran on the platform to repeal health care, what country do you live in? The presidents veto stamp was moistened the minute Tea-Party lunatics shouted repeal it. I would like the people now covered under the policy to stand up. Something tells me that the millions of college students, struggling families and businesses that now benefit from the health care benefits this administration has provided will not be willing to turn it in to fit the motives of the Republican party.

I am sick of politics!!!!!!!!

Am I the only person tired of hearing the same back and forth arguments between commentators and politicians on Fox News? How many times are we going to have to hear that our president is a Communist, Socialist, or Adolph Hitler? Not very patriotic I might add. I mean, you may disagree with his policies or what not, but comparing Obama to the most insane and notorious leader of all time should be obviously a bit of a stretch one would think. I wonder how Hitler would feel about this comparison! I've decided I have had enough. I am going to give my ears a well deserved break from the nonsense, despite its entertainment value. (I like laughing at idiots! Lol) I have now banned the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Hannity and how could I forget..., the psycho, self proclaimed professor himself, Glen Beck, from torturing my intelligence any further with their rants, dripping with thinly disguised racism. And yeah, I'm a little tired of Sarah Palin as well, and her constant screaming "We want our country back!". As if it was ever lost in the first place. This is all a part of the platform of painting our president as some kind of outsider. As someone "Who is not one of us" sort of speak. When was the last time we have seen such vile hate for a president in the history of this country? "Obama wants to redistribute the wealth" is another one; as if his whole agenda must be somehow attributable to so called black liberation theology.  One is tempted to ask himself, what could be fueling all of this hate if not racism? Most will say well its his policies. If thats how you feel, can it be said that we have had enough time to see if they work? Two years into his presidency and people are acting like the guy should be crucified because our economy didn't miraculously rebound on a dime. This is like turning a giant ocean liner not a Corvette. And on top of that if I'm not mistaken, didn't we just give an illiterate drunk/ War criminal 8 years to get us into this mess in the first place? I think we all should give President Obama some credit, both sides, Republicans and Democrats, because he is really doing a great job. Heck, right now his NOBEL PEACE PRIZE is the least of his accomplishments, and he has a lot more time to further distinguish his legacy. In the end I think politicians and commentators trying to score political points by bashing the president should at least be patriotic enough to show a little respect to the Oval Office itself, no matter who is at the helm. But then again, common sense, in politics? Yeah right!
